Personally, I wouldn't think it would be worth it once shipping was factored in. As far as risk, yeah, it's always a gamble on eBay....

Have you bought any tools from Amazon.com? I have purchased several things there and have been very satisfied.

I agree that using e-bay would be risky. If your just an average diy type of woodworker and not doing anything industrial, you may want to consider harborfreight.com as an alternative. They have a lot of lower priced tools and sometimes offer free shipping. Definately not Craftsman, but I haven't had any problems with anything that I've purchased.

    Good luck,

ive had good success with power tools on ebay. ive gotten a full set of newer bosch cordless tools one piece at a time, batteries, and chargers for a fraction of their retail cost. i did get one lemon, a hitachi sliding compound miter saw that has *bad* blade wobble and tired loose bushings. the difference here is that the miter saw is way old and *very* used whereas the cordless stuff is all almost new. my advice would be to stick to the newer stuff, and if you need precision buy it new. as with any ebay transaction, look for sellers who have many sales of the kind of item you seek and near perfect feedback.
