Wood identification?

I've got an old chest of drawers with tons of nicks and dings and scratches in it.. its one I've had since I was.. well.. forever, I guess.

Anyways, how do I go about identifying what wood it is before I sand it down and refinish it?

      def. dont sand .
      strip or scrape it

      take pics but if you shop at woodcraft or someone of that quality they should be able to i.d. it for you
      if you haave several pieces you maay wanna buy a wood i.d . kit
      probably cost you around twenty or twenty five
